  • 3 lbs boneless beef shoulder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tsp molasses
  • 1 tsp Five Spice Powder
  • 2 tbsp honey

Instructions

  1. Cut the beef into long strips about three inches thick.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the marinade ingredients until well combined.
  3. Rub the marinade generously over the beef strips, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) and line a baking sheet with foil.
  5. Place the beef on a rack and roast for 25 minutes uncovered.
  6. Mix honey into reserved marinade for basting; turn the beef and baste after the initial roasting.
  7. Roast again for another 10 minutes, then turn and baste once more before finishing with an additional roasting time of 10 minutes.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
