  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the brioche or challah into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Pour the custard mixture over the bread slices and gently press down to ensure soaking.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown; broil for an additional minute if desired.
  7. Sprinkle sugar on top and caramelize with a kitchen torch or under the broiler.
