  • 4 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 tbsp lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 4 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp granulated white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated white sugar
  • 2 eggs (whisked)
  • 1/2 tbsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to about 110°F and combine it with yeast and sugar in a small bowl. Let it sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and sugar. Add the yeast mixture along with eggs, softened butter, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Mix until combined.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl and cover; let rise for about an hour until doubled.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter over it and sprinkle with sugars, zest, juice, and salt.
  6. Roll tightly into a log; slice into pieces.
  7. Place rolls in greased pans; let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating oven to 350°F.
  8. Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For frosting: beat together softened butter, cold cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon zest, and juice until smooth.
  10. Drizzle frosting over warm rolls.
