  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni in boiling salted water until al dente (about 7-8 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour to create a roux; cook for about one minute.
  3. Gradually add the whole milk while whisking continuously until the sauce thickens slightly (a few minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated.
  6. Transfer to a greased baking dish, sprinkle panko bread crumbs on top, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
